Lifton is the classi intellectual who unfortunately throws out the baby with the bathwater. The bow tie gives it away! Every religion in the world started out as a ‘cult’. Someone had to lead. But we all have a personal responsibility to reflect on the direction our faith takes us.

Wow, this is a treasure of information!

Thanks for sharing this with us WBM, wish i could’ve been there.

Also: notice how the CoS fits a lot of the cult descriptions.

All followers need to realize is that they should be their own leaders. If you need faith, have faith in yourself. You don’t need someone to tell you what you should do. Do what pleases you and if it pleases others, that’s a bonus. But at the end of the day, the only person you can and should count on is yourself.

i think also people are stressed out with their lives and they might not enjoy it and so this cult gives them this image of a new life and change and also how they’ll be important in that change…stroking their ego to say they are on the right path while others are not

Here is a speaker where I knew after the first minute this would be worth watching the whole hour.

What’s interesting is the symbiosis between leader and followers. One cannot exist without the other.
